I think Biden is losing independents for the following reasons
I didn't vote for Trump and the prospect of him coming back is scary, but IMO Biden is opening the door. How you ask?
IMO, there isn't just one answer...it is a combo of factors including the following in no particular order (obviously some care about some issues and not others). In some cases, it is a perception rather than a reality that he is painted with (eg...there are lots of reasons for rising inflation, but the average American doesn't appreciate monetary policy).
1) Rising inflation that in some sectors hasn't been seen since the early 1980s.
2) Supply chain issues...
3) Rising inflation and supply chain issues occurring during a period where we paid a significant portion of the population more to not work than to work.
4) Perception among many (you may or may not agree) that he is pushing progressive/liberal agenda rather than a more centrist, or center left agenda. There are 52 senators who are against build back better...yet he is trying to ram it through...and holding up the infrastructure bill that has bipartisan support.
5) Afghanistan CF
6) Frequently being caught in lies or stating things that are "disconnected from facts on the ground"...he lies... a lot...not as much as Orange hair....but more than any other president
7) The border/immigration is a mess
8) De-fund the police/rising crime.
9) He's not articulate, stumbles on questions, has little cognition of numbers or math...doesn't inspire confidence...
10) "Independence day" for Covid followed by mandate...virus changes...but premature pronouncements lead to reduced confidence
Ask 100 people, and there will probably be 100 different responses. You may disagree.... I think he could rebound by pivoting more to the center...liberals and progressives will vote for him regardless of what he does. He needs the moderates and the independents....take the win on infrastructure. Punt on build back better for now...perceived as over reach by many ....and math doesn't work. Focus on addressing inflation, supply chain, crime and other issues that impact the average American.
